Abberant is an enemy that appeared during the 10th Anniversary Stream as a random enemy encounter in Dog Hole alongside Mr. Sunshine. Following the event, the battle against it and Mr. Sunshine was made available on the UnderTale website.

Profile

Appearance

Abberant is a small bug monster with a tiny lower body consisting of four spider-like legs. It wears a chestplate and holds a sword and a shield. Abberant has no visible mouth, but has two empty eyes. Its head is covered in dog hair with two antennae sticking out of it.

Personality

Initially, Abberant is controlled by the dog hair on its head. In this state, it claims to be a member of the "Knights of the Hound" and worships the Annoying Dog. It acts aggressively towards the protagonist for trespassing into the Dog Hole. After the hair is destroyed, Abberant realizes that its faith in the dog was misguided.

Etymology

Abberant's name is a pun on the words aberrant and ant.

Attacks

• Annoying Dog dashes across the bullet board 4 times. If Abberant is alone, the dog scatters fur balls and dashes 6 times.
• Annoying Dog swings a sword across the bullet board 7 times, its sword turning blue or orange with each swing. None of the other enemies attack during this attack.

Strategy

To spare Abberant, remove the hair by either attacking it or using the Cut Down act.

Trivia

• Abberant has the highest internal defense out of all fightable monsters in the game, not counting enemies meant to be impenetrable such as Mettaton in his box form and Asriel Dreemurr.
• The sword used by the Annoying Dog may be a reference to the Planet Buster from the Brandish series, which also appears in early concept art for UnderTale.
• "En Cheveux, En Pelo!" seems to be "In hair!" in French and Spanish, respectively.
  • Cheveux is the plural for cheveu, which specifically refers to headhairs. Pelo is singular, plural -s.
  • While both Latin languages, cheveu and pelo derive from slightly different words: The former from capillus, the latter from pillus.
• Abberant seems to be vaguely reminiscent of a "zombie ant".
